When you place the box on the shelf, leave the text facing out so you can see at a glance what is in each box. If you have a lot of boxes, or if you can't see them all easily, then you can create a numbering system. Number each box according to the shelving unit, row, and box position. Then create a key sheet that explains what is in each box and leave the sheet in the storage unit. When you need something, look for it on the sheet and find the corresponding box number by it.
