Organize Your Storage Unit So Your Belongings Are Easy To Find

A storage unit can help you manage your belongings and control clutter. However, if you're not organized, your unit will quickly become a tangled mess, especially if you need to get things in and out of it on a regular basis. Here are a few tips for keeping your storage unit organized, so you can quickly find and reach all of your belongings.

Install Shelving Units

Shelves are ideal for a few reasons. First of all, they allow you to keep boxes off of the floor. That could come in handy if an usually heavy rain causes water to seep inside the unit. Also, when you use shelves, you don't have to stack boxes on top of each other. That allows you easy access to every box in storage without having to move everything around to get to something on the bottom. In addition, when you use shelves, you don't have to put everything in stacking boxes. Items that don't fit well in boxes can be left sitting on a shelf instead of crammed into a box. You can buy inexpensive metal shelves for your storage unit and arrange them around the walls or place them parallel in the center of the unit. Just be sure you leave enough aisle room between them to get to your things.

Utilize Large Trash Cans

Big round trash cans make ideal storage bins for things with unusual shapes and for items you want to be able to reach quickly. You can store all your long items in a big trash can. This includes things like fishing poles, a string mower, curtain rods, brooms, rakes, and shovels. You can also store heavy things like a bowling ball, and things with unusual shapes, like a dollhouse, in a trash can. A trash can holds several items and protects them at the same time. Plus, the can is easy to move around so it won't be in your way when you need to reach things on the shelves.

Use A Tracking System

As you organize your belongings, you want to track them as well. That way when you look for a particular item months later, you won't have to open every box in the place to find it. One thing you can do is write the contents of each box on the outside of the box with a black marker. When you place the box on the shelf, leave the text facing out so you can see at a glance what is in each box. If you have a lot of boxes, or if you can't see them all easily, then you can create a numbering system. Number each box according to the shelving unit, row, and box position. Then create a key sheet that explains what is in each box and leave the sheet in the storage unit. When you need something, look for it on the sheet and find the corresponding box number by it. This leads you right to the box you need.

Having an organized storage unit like Magnum Self Storage saves you from a lot of stress and frustration. If you don't see your things all the time, you'll forget where they are unless you have some sort of system in place. If you plan to use the storage space as an extra room where you'll keep things you need from time to time, you definitely want to make sure everything is easily accessible and easy to find.

I was so excited that my dad was coming to town and he was going to stay in my home, rather than in a hotel. However, within a few hours of arriving, my excitement for my visit with him turned to fear for my home. I didn't know much about homes, and I failed to realize that my home was displaying some of the tell-tale signs of foundation problems. Luckily my dad quickly spotted them and alerted me to them. Since that time, I have had my problems inspected and diagnosed. In just a couple weeks, they are going to be repaired. I know I am not the only person out there who has no idea what type of foundation problems you can have, what causes them, what signs are displayed if you have issues and how they are repaired. I hope my website helps to educate you about foundations.
